What Heya doesn't do yet
Heya can't sell books or collect newsletter signups on the site yet. Forms are planned for Pro Standard ($19 a year) and payments for Pro Plus ($49 a year), and neither is live. Link the buy buttons to Bookshop.org, Amazon or your publisher, and point the newsletter button at your signup page on Substack, Mailchimp or MailerLite.
There is no blog either, so share news in your newsletter and keep the site for books and events. You can embed a book trailer from YouTube or Vimeo on any page.
Questions
Is this author website template free?
Yes. The template and publishing are free: up to 3 sites with up to 5 pages each on a name.heya.bio address with HTTPS, no credit card and no time limit. Free sites show a small "Made with Heya" badge, which Pro Lite removes for $9 a year.
Can I sell signed copies on my site?
Not on Heya yet, since payments are planned for Pro Plus and are not live. Many authors partner with a local bookstore that takes orders for signed copies, and link a button to its order page.
How do I add a new book?
Add a section to the Books page with the cover, the title, a short description and the buy buttons. On release day, change the cover and the title at the top of the home page.
Can I make a separate site for a pen name?
Yes. The free plan includes 3 sites, so each pen name or series can have its own heya.bio address.
What does Pro Lite add?
It removes the "Made with Heya" badge, raises the limit from 5 to 20 pages per site, and your links lose the nofollow tag. It costs $9 a year, see pricing.
Can I download my author website?
Yes. Every plan can download the site as a ZIP of plain HTML, CSS, fonts and images, so you can keep a copy or host it anywhere.
