How each option works
Google Sites
Free with a Google account
Google Sites is free, and you can connect up to 5 domains you already own to each site at no cost.
If you apply for Google for Nonprofits, they check your eligibility through Goodstack. Government
bodies, hospitals, and schools aren't eligible, bit groups that qualify get Google Workspace for
Nonprofits.
- Better at
- A free site on your own domain, plus Google's nonprofit program.
- Watch out
- Editing needs a computer.
Wix
Free, or Light at $17/mo yearly
Wix has a free plan that comes with 500 MB of storage and a Wix banner ad on your site. They list
donations and fundraising in their features. If you want to use a custom domain, you'll need the
Light plan at $17 a month billed yearly.
- Better at
- Donations and fundraising tools inside the builder.
- Watch out
- The banner ad on free sites.
WordPress.com
Free, or Personal at $4/mo yearly
The free plan on WordPress.com never expires. You get 1 GB of storage and unlimited pages and posts,
though it shows ads on your site. Stepping up to the Personal plan costs $4 a month billed yearly,
removes those ads, and gives you a free domain for the first year.
- Better at
- News and updates, with unlimited posts.
- Watch out
- Ads on free sites.
Canva for Nonprofits
Free for eligible nonprofits
Once you apply and get verified, Canva for Nonprofits gives your team of up to 50 people Canva Pro
features for free. You can also build websites with Canva, and they let you publish up to 5 free
sites using a my.canva.site address.
- Better at
- Design tools for your whole team, free.
- Watch out
- You have to apply and be verified.
Squarespace
From $19/mo yearly, 14-day trial
Squarespace doesn't have a free plan. Every plan comes with a donation block, so you can take gifts
right away. Watch the fees though, because the Basic plan at $19 a month billed yearly takes 2% of
your donations, while Core and higher plans take 0%.
- Better at
- Polished design with a built-in donation block.
- Watch out
- 2% of donations on Basic.
Heya
Free, or Pro Lite at $3/mo
Heya is ours. You get 3 free sites at name.heya.bio with 5 pages each, a small Made with Heya badge,
and no credit card needed. Build without an account, sign in with Google to publish, and pick from
68 templates on every plan. Heya's 3-page nonprofit template has your mission, impact numbers,
programs, donate buttons, volunteer roles, and board, while Pro Lite is $3 a month for 20 pages and
no badge.
- Better at
-
A free nonprofit template with donate buttons that
open the donation tool you choose.
- Watch out
- Donations go through the form or checkout tool you link to.
Zeffy
Free
Zeffy is 100% free for nonprofits. You won't pay any transaction fees or platform fees at all.
Instead, Zeffy is paid for by optional tips that donors can leave when they give, and there is no
paid tier to upgrade to.
- Better at
- Keeping every dollar donated.
- Watch out
- It runs donation forms, not your website.
Givebutter
Free with donor tips
Givebutter charges $0 in platform fees when you let donors leave a tip, or 3% if you turn tips off.
You still pay processing fees of 2.9% + 30 cents for card gifts and 1.9% + 30 cents for ACH. They
also have paid plans at $29, $79, and $129 a month.
- Better at
- Campaign pages and events with optional tips.
- Watch out
- Card fees still apply on every gift.
Pair a free site with a free donation tool
You don't have to use the same product for your website and your donation tool. They can be separate.
Zeffy runs donation forms with no transaction fees and no platform fees at all, since it's paid for by
optional tips from your donors. Givebutter is another option with $0 platform fees when you let donors
leave a tip, or a 3% fee if you turn tips off, plus you'll pay 2.9% + 30 cents for each card gift or
1.9% + 30 cents for ACH transfers.
Once you pick one of those, you just connect it to your site. You can put together a free page on Heya
or Google Sites, add a Donate button, and link it straight to your Zeffy or Givebutter form. That's
all it takes to have both running together.
Nonprofit discounts worth claiming
A couple of big software companies give their tools away if you qualify. Google for Nonprofits checks
your eligibility through Goodstack and gives you Google Workspace for Nonprofits once you're in,
though they exclude government bodies, hospitals, and schools from the program. You can also put in an
application for Canva for Nonprofits. Once they check it, a team of up to 50 people gets to use Canva
Pro features for free.
If you're looking at paid website builders, check how their plans handle donations before you pick a
tier. Say you decide to build your site on Squarespace. Their Basic plan takes 2% of the donations you
bring in, while the Core plan and the plans above it take 0%.
How we checked
We checked each builder and donation tool on October 26, 2026 from a US connection, using their
pricing and nonprofit program pages. Wix shows its prices only after the page runs in a browser, so we
kept the Wix price we confirmed on October 23, 2026. The facts come from
Google for Nonprofits,
Canva for Nonprofits,
zeffy.com,
