2026 Wix alternatives

The best Wix alternatives in 2026

Wix's free plan puts a banner ad on every page, and your own domain starts at $17 a month billed yearly. Heya gives you 3 free sites with a small badge instead of an ad, removes it for $3 a month, and lets you download your site as plain HTML on Pro Plus at $15 a month.

Heya is ours, so read its row with that in mind. Every other number comes from each company's own pages, checked on October 26, 2026.

How each alternative compares

Google Sites

Free with a Google account

Google Sites is completely free with a Google account. You can connect up to 5 domains you already own to each site without paying a cent, as long as your site is public. It lets you nest subpages up to 5 levels deep, and you can export your work through Google Takeout.

Better at
Your own domain on a free plan.
Watch out
Editing needs a computer.

WordPress.com

Free, or Personal at $4/mo yearly

WordPress.com has a free plan that never expires, giving you 1 GB of storage and unlimited pages and posts, though it puts ads on your site. Moving up to the Personal plan at $4 a month billed yearly removes the ads and gives you a free domain for the first year. There's also a built-in export tool.

Better at
Blogs and sites with lots of pages.
Watch out
Ads on free sites, and plugins only on paid plans.

Carrd

Free, or Pro Lite at $9 a year

Carrd lets you build 3 one-page sites on its free plan with Made with Carrd branding. If you want to drop the branding, Pro Lite is $9 a year. Pro Standard costs $19 a year and adds custom domains and forms, while Pro Plus at $49 a year lets you download your sites.

Better at
A custom domain for $19 a year instead of $204.
Watch out
Each site is a single page.

Squarespace

From $19/mo yearly, 14-day trial

Squarespace doesn't have a free plan, just a 14-day trial that doesn't ask for a credit card. Their Basic plan runs $19 a month billed yearly, or $25 if you pay month to month, and takes a 2% cut on online sales. If you pick an annual plan, you get a free domain for the first year.

Better at
Polished templates and built-in selling.
Watch out
No free plan, and it costs more than Wix Light.

Webflow

Free, or Basic at $15/mo billed yearly

On Webflow's free Starter plan, you get 2 static pages, 1 GB of bandwidth, and 50 form submissions per site, along with a Made in Webflow badge. Connecting a custom domain takes the Basic plan at $15 a month billed yearly. If you want to export your code, you'll need a Core Workspace at $19 a month billed yearly.

Better at
Full design control and clean code export.
Watch out
Only 2 static pages on free.

Framer

Free, or Basic at $10/mo yearly

Framer's free plan gives you 1 GB of bandwidth, 500 AI credits, and up to 1,000 pages on a name.framer.website address with a Made in Framer banner, which Framer recommends for non-commercial use. Custom domains start on the Basic plan at $10 a month billed yearly. You can't export HTML for self-hosting.

Better at
Designer-grade sites with a cheaper domain plan than Wix.
Watch out
No HTML export.

Strikingly

Free, or Limited at $8/mo yearly

With Strikingly, you can make unlimited free sites with up to 5 pages each on a mystrikingly.com address, complete with Strikingly branding. Their Limited plan is $8 a month billed yearly and gives you a custom domain, a free domain for a year, 1 GB of storage per site, and 50 GB of bandwidth.

Better at
Unlimited free sites.
Watch out
The branding stays until Pro at $16 a month.

Heya

Free, or Pro Lite at $3/mo

Heya is ours. You can build right away from 68 templates without an account, and only sign in with Google to publish. The free plan needs no credit card and gives you 3 sites at name.heya.bio with 5 pages each and a small Made with Heya badge. Pro Lite is $3 a month for no badge, 20 pages, and followed links. Pro Standard is $6 a month for up to 5 sites and 1 custom domain, and Pro Plus is $15 a month to download your site as HTML in a ZIP.

Better at
Small sites with no banner ad, and a free ZIP of your site on every plan.
Watch out
No forms or visitor stats yet, and no store.

Why people look for a Wix alternative

If you use Wix's free plan, your site gets a Wix banner ad right across the top of every page, plus a Wix tab icon in the browser. Getting rid of that and hooking up your own custom domain means paying for their Light plan, which costs $17 a month when billed yearly ($204 a year) or $24 if you pay month to month. And if you need to take payments on your site, you have to jump up to the Core plan at $29 a month.

There isn't a free trial for Wix's paid plans, either. Instead, you pay upfront and get a 14-day money-back guarantee. Also, when you look through Wix's plan pages, they don't mention any way to export your site if you decide to leave later.

The right alternative for your reason

If you want to skip paying for a domain plan altogether, go with Google Sites, since it lets you connect up to 5 domains you already own for free. If you just want the lowest yearly price that supports a custom domain, Carrd's Pro Standard plan is $19 a year. For a blog, WordPress.com gives you unlimited pages and posts on its free tier.

Maybe you want more control over how things look. For design freedom, check out Webflow, where the Basic plan is $15 a month billed yearly, or Framer, which has its Basic plan at $10 a month billed yearly. If you're after a polished paid site and don't mind paying from the start, Squarespace starts at $19 a month billed yearly. And if you just want a few small sites with 5 pages each and 68 templates, try Heya, which is free for 3 sites.

FAQ

What is the best free alternative to Wix?

It depends on what you're building. Google Sites is best if you want to use your own domain for free, letting you connect up to 5 per site. Heya is great if you want small sites without a big banner ad, giving you 3 free sites with 5 pages each and just a small badge. If you're starting a blog, go with WordPress.com, though its free sites do show ads.

Is there a Wix alternative without a banner ad on the free plan?

Yes, several builders skip the top banner ad. On their free plans, Heya, Carrd, Webflow, and Framer only put a small badge or banner with their own name on your site: Made with Heya, Made with Carrd, Made in Webflow, and Made in Framer. WordPress.com's free plan is the exception here and does show ads.

Can I move my site from Wix to another builder?

We couldn't find any mention of a site export on Wix's plan pages, so you'll need to plan on rebuilding your pages in whatever new builder you pick. If you only have a small site, starting over from a template is the quickest way to get it done. If you rebuild on Heya, you can later download your site as plain HTML, CSS, fonts, and images anytime you want.

Is Wix cheaper than Squarespace?

Yes, by a little bit. First off, Wix has a free plan and Squarespace doesn't. If you look at yearly billing for their entry-level paid plans, Wix Light is $17 a month while Squarespace Basic is $19 a month. Squarespace Basic also takes a 2% cut of your online sales, services, and donations.
